Walking home from an evening service and reflecting on the prayer issued by the Church today for the Crown Nominations Commission, it occurred to me that the people being considered for the post are also in need of prayerful support.
And so…
God of compassion and Lord of life,
look with love on our brothers whose vocation to be
Archbishop of Canterbury is being tested at this time.
Find them wise companions and careful counsellors.
Comfort their loved ones as they share this journey with them.
And give them humility, simplicity and purpose,
that they might be blessed as they allow others
to seek your will for their lives,
for the good of your Church and the glory of your kingdom.
We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus
who taught us to say ‘thy will be done’
and who knew the cost of the words.
Amen.
